Players of the Match: Batter: Olivia C, Fielder: Emma H
What a scorcher! Sun cream flowed and water bottles remained to the fore, the girls had a comprehensive warm up and a few last minute alterations for absentees, skilfully match managed by Emma S and Lucy R. Lucy R won the toss and elected to field first. The heat seemed to get the better of our fielding and the girls had to shake off their soporific tendencies, but not before giving away some careless halves and missing opportunities to get players out; although they did get the opposition all out with 7 good balls to spare! However, when it was our turn to bat the girls woke up with a vengeance and put together a superb batting display with the vast majority of the girls scoring whole rounders – Fran F delighted in her two whole rounders, well done! Olivia C was awarded batting Player of theMatch for her consistently deep and accurate hitting – really putting the Grace Dieu girls through their paces. Emma H was awarded fielding Player of the Match for her work rate and judgement as backstop, she also hits beautifully sending balls sailing out over first post with almost predictable precision.Grace Dieu scored 7 in their first innings and S. Anselm's 17. Grace Dieu then went into bat for their second innings and S. Anselm's held them to a score of 3 – with some sharper fielding: Eleanor t took a great catch at 4th post and Nancy S again bowled consistently. This meant that S. Anselm's declared having won the match without the need to bat on. However, we agreed to play the game out as we had the time. S. Anselm's scored a further 10 with some super hits. It was great to see all the girls taking such pleasure in their sport and enjoying the setting and opportunity to the full. The visiting parents commentated on the manners and the friendliness of the S.Anselm's – well done to everyone.
