U12A V Oakham U12A
S.Anselms WON 21 - 4
This was an absolutely fabulous match with every one of the girls playing to the best of their ability. Although everyone was very friendly the SA girls gave nothing away and fought for possession of every ball.
The centre court play was excellent with centre passes being taken quickly and decisively. The ball was in our D within 3 passes and a goal was invariably scored. The defence marked well and often intercepted Oakham centre passes. They really put pressure on the Oakham girls and Oakham struggled to make good passes.
The 1st quarter was very fast and Poppy and Georgina had so many potential goals skim the hoop and drop out. Georgia and Nancy fed the ball into the D well and the 2 shooters demonstrated the moves learnt from Mrs Northcott to great effect.
The 2nd quarter was easily the best with the girls slowing down the play; good accurate passing ensured the ball moved quickly into our attack. Georgina settled into a groove and it seemed that she couldn't miss when shooting. Poppy, who was marked by a tall GK, was very generous in feeding balls to Georgina to ensure the goal. Emily has developed a very effective well held lean which made any pass or attempt at shooting by Oakham very hard. Charlotte used her height to her advantage and gets so many tips on the ball that Lydia or Phoebe were quick to pick up on.
By half time we had a very convincing lead of 11-3.
The girls realised that they were the better team but maintained their high standard of play and kept popping the goals in and only allowed Oakham to score once more. Georgina really was on fire and dominated our attack. Both Phoebe and Lydia were very steady, marked well and picked up loose balls quickly. Georgia worked the court well and linked the defence and attack effortlessly.
Excellent match girls. Let's keep the standard as high for the next one!
