U12 A Cricket v Trent College
S. Anselm’s 167 all out (30 overs) lost to Trent College 181 all out (30 overs) by 14 runs
This was a good competitive match and one that the S. Anselm’s team knew they should have won. After winning the toss and asking Trent to bat there was some steady bowling from James B who made a breakthrough in then 1st over trapping one of the openers LBW without scoring, he was well supported by Rufus l. However, there was some very sloppy fielding and catches dropped. Rufus dismissed the other opener and at 37 for 2 Trent were wobbling. The fielding and catching deteriorated and the two batsmen had many lives adding over 100 runs. The introduction of Ollie N saw 4 wickets fall quickly in a fine spell of bowling. Jacques T bowled well and took a wicket, well supported by David C who took 2 wickets. James B returned to dismiss the last batsman and the Trent innings closed on a challenging total of 181, a score that should have been at least 30 less if the boys had kept up their high fielding standards.
The S. Anselm’s innings began well with James B being severe on any bad balls bowled and Charlie B was rotating the strike nicely. James had reached 44 and in an attempt to increase the scoring rate was well stumped. Luke T and Charlie tried their hardest but the required run rate was increasing all the time. Luke was first to depart for 8. Max H struck the ball nicely before he was out stumped for 19. This brought Ollie N to the wicket and he went on to play a very courageous innings, Charlie B departed for a score of 19. Rufus L, who scored 12, then supported Ollie well and at one stage it looked as though they might pull off a remarkable victory.
