U12XI v Abbotsholme U13 Won 3-2

This match was as pleasing as the weather, which proved to be the finest of spring days. Although this was the first time the U12’s had played together, the quickly gelled and began to play some quality football. Our defence was initially quite timid and that led to some panic over a pass back which inevitably was trickled past the keeper to give Abbotsholme a 1-0 head start. Anselm’s quickly lifted their game at the back and largely prevented any more mishaps with some superb work rate from Theodore H and brutal challenges by centre back Lewis H. At the other end a late challenge in the box yielded a penalty, which was slotted primly away by Alex W.

With Andrew C moving up into midfield the forwards really began to exploit the full size of the pitch and some great space play presented some excellent opportunities. Elliot T was able to steal the lead with one of these. Sadly this lead was fleeting with as a half time substitution brought goalkeeper Cameron D into left defence, which he was superbly zealous at, but an unlucky challenge yielded a penalty and a goal. Despite this setback Cameron reinvigorated the Anselm’s defence and they were stalwart throughout the remainder of the match.

Up field several unlucky offside offences inhibited some great striking opportunities with midfielders Matthew N and Lewis J working superbly to put the ball through to the waiting attack. Captain Edward S was unlucky to bounce yet another off the woodwork this week and this adds to his significant tally of post hitting! A further goal was smacked soundly into the goal by Elliot T to leave us in the wining position with minutes to play.

This match was a terrific spectacle to end the soccer season with. The U12’s clearly demonstrated some silky football skills, which promises to produce an excellent 1st team next year.

Well done Chaps!
