A fun occasion enjoyed by all, it was great to see so many parents, friends and relatives participating in or supporting this event. The weather was glorious and it was Father’s Day, so it gave our boarders a chance to see their dads.
Having lost the toss the parents were put into bat first and a few fell quickly to the awesome fielding displayed by the Leavers. Cecily C-C and Immy W worked well to stump the non-hitters out at first post. A good catch was taken in the field by Emily D, whilst Izzy E and Charlotte P fielded impressively in the deep. Our two bowlers Hannah S and Eliza W mixed it up well to keep the parents on their toes. Hard hits from Mr Ellis, Mr and Mrs Stani, and Mr Wood saw the parents total increase steadily.
Fielding wise, the parents had the edge with their awesome over-arm throws and quick return of the ball, but the ball did not always go where they had intended it to and the girls capitalised on their errors. Heather S struggled a little when bowling to the smaller team members, her bowls would have been perfect for 10 foot high girls! Consistent hard hits came from Hannah S and Izzy E, with the rest of the Leavers squad taking chances to reach 2nd too.
In the 2nd innings, Mrs Berry came into her own to ensure her stumping of 2nd stopped the half rounders. Backed up by some great deep fielders and agile fielding pre-injury by Mr Ellis on 1st post, the parents tried hard to keep the girls’ score down. Unfortunately weak batting by them in the second innings had left them with a huge task – the girls having caught or stumped several of the dads out in the early part of the innings. With only two rounders to score to win the match, the girls’ confidence was high. Good placing of the ball past the deeps saw them quickly notch up plenty of rounders. Even with some interesting counting of bowls by NL it was not long before the girls took the lead.
Thanks to Mrs Linnell for assisting with the umpiring of this game and for coaching the under 13s this season. Thanks also to Julie and her team for such lovely refreshments after the match. Well played all!
