Player of the Match Chloe R-S – top class performance throughout the whole match.
Goal scorers: Chloe R-S. 1 goal in the first half. Maria C 1 goal in the second half.
This has been by far the best match this season. A well matched game played in excellent spirit! It was difficult to select a U13A VII side for this fixture, particularly with the match only being 7 a side and at training having all the year 7 and 8 girls working hard for a place in the A team it certainly gave Mrs N a tough decision to make. S. Anselm’s started off slowly in the first 5 minutes of the game but certainly started to come to life as the minutes ticked away. Lucy R and Fran F were certainly on form and defended well, clearing the ball consistently away from our own goal. Chloe R- S dominated the match with her skill, determination and stamina. She was outstanding and she was certainly determined to score the first goal of the match. Fran F sent an excellent early ball out into the S. Anselm’s attacking 25 yd area straight to Chloe R-S, of which she attacked the D and shot an exceptional goal into the top right corner of the goal. Emma H, Maria C and Lily were also there to support Chloe with perfect positioning for a deflection from the Goal Keeper, however on this occasion it was not needed. S. Anselm’s went up 1 – 0 in the 15th minute of the match. After that goal was scored the whole team lifted. There was super team work, midfield players and forwards were eliminating the ball well and providing opportunities in the D. At half time, the score was S. Anselm’s 1 and Grace Dieu 0.
The teams were certainly well match, but what gave us the edge in the first half was the standard of defending from all players and the work rate and positioning off the ball. This certainly prepared us well for possession gained and distribution into the S. Anselm’s attacking half.
In the second half, Grace Dieu certainly stepped up a gear and S. Anselm’s had to react quickly to Grace Dieu breaks in play. Hannah S came on as Right Mid whilst Olivia C certainly made some outstanding saves which kept us in the lead and she was composed and focussed which gave the team confidence at the back. Lucy R and Fran F remained strong and delivered the ball well out of defence into the space for midfield players Hannah S and Lily S to work with. Chloe R-S again came onto the pitch in the second half determined for her team to gain another goal. This is exactly what the team did! There was a break in play, Lily S had a number of shots on goal and was unlucky not to score, however she was closed down by the solid Grace Dieu defence. However, Lily S skilfully gained possession of the ball and eventually found space by taking the ball out of the D and crossed the play to the right hand side of the pitch. This allowed Emma H to run with the ball and deliver an excellent ball onto the stick of Maria C ( CF) who was positioned perfectly in the D, she turned and shot confidently. S. Anselm’s went 2 – 0 in the lead. With only minutes to go, Grace Dieu were awarded a short corner, however, Lucy R and Fran F were determined to keep the scoreline down and cleared the ball once again. Today all the girls were hungry for possession and it certainly makes a difference on the pitch. It was super to see the excellent work rate from all the players. A huge well done. As the girls coach it was an outstanding performance and an enjoyable match to watch and umpire. Thank you to our parents for their encouragement and support on such a beautiful sunny afternoon on top field. I wish everyone an enjoyable EXEAT break – girls please do get some rest, we have tough matches ahead of us! MPN
