What a fantastic match today!

It was certainly the perfect ending to my last School hockey fixture at S. Anselm’s.

I was so pleased to see the whole squad warming up well, all supporting each other, encouraging each other and talking tactics about the fixture that was ahead of them.  Today’s match was all about ensuring that everyone had a good opportunity to play on the pitch and show their silky skills and understanding of the game, to also show key skills and set plays that have been worked on throughout the whole term.  Arabella H, Jessica R-S, Annie G-P, Ella N and Arabella A were all dominating the midfield and ensuring that the ball was penetrated into S. Anselm’s attacking D consistently.  After 2 short corner successes, outstanding shots from Arabella H ensured that the S. Anselm’s team were 2-0 ahead in the first half.  Erin S, Ella R and Georgina H all defended strong, covered well in defence when a back player attacked up the pitch, they also worked really well with the midfield.  At times we saw lovely passes from Erin and Ella out to Isobel H, Imogen H, Ella T time after time, which allowed these players to work the ball up into the S. Anselm’s attack and have opportunities on goal. Fran B and Isobel H were very unlucky not to score.  We thought that Fran was going for a double in one week after her outstanding goal at the National IAPS hockey finals!  At half time, the score was 2-0.

In the second half, Ella R moved up to a forward position along with Arabella A, Fran B.  It was fantastic to see such confidence on the ball.  We were so unlucky not to have scored a few more goals but the QEGS Goal Keeper certainly made a few fantastic saves and kept QEGS in the match.  Isobel H, Imogen H and Fran B all having a super second half and finding key spaces on the pitch and delivering opportunities for Jess R-S, Arabella H, Ella N and Arabella A to score.  QEGS did get stronger and stronger which meant that S. Anselm’s had to defend hard to gain possession.  Erin S and Georgina H were solid and ensured that the scoreline remained in tact!  QEGS had a break in play with a good shot on target but Goal keeper Super Serby saved it with determination!  The overall score was 2 – 0.  It was a brilliant team effort, very enjoyable and great to see the squad playing so well altogether on astro.

To finish the whole evening off, we sang all the way home to Michael Buble – Christmas CD.  The minibus was certainly rocking around the Christmas tree!

Thank you girls for a fabulous season of hockey – you have been great group of girls to work with and to see the huge improvements in every individual player has certainly been a highlight of my term.  I would like to thank all the parents for their support and again we are all really looking forward to the parents match soon.
