U13 v Terra Nova Won 28 1/2 - 14 1/2

Wednesday 24th May 2011.

S. Anselm’s 1st IX rounders V Terra Nova 1st IX rounders.

POM: Lily S.

A day for celebration! Today the 1st IX played Terra Nova and they were certainly determined to win. They batted first and got off to a flying start. Emma H led the way scoring the first full rounder of the match and then the team followed. Lily S scored a total of 6 rounders, Emma H scored 2 rounders, Nancy scored 2 rounders, Hannah scored 2 rounders, Fran F scored 1 ½ rounders, Lucy scored 1 rounder and Roxanne scored 1 rounder. Ending the innings with a total of 15 ½ rounders. A great start for S. Anselm’s. The team then went on to field. The Terra Nova side had a few key hitters and they started off scoring early full rounders, however with good tight fielding in the deep field by Olivia C, Chloe R-S, Hannah S and Lucy R the team kept the score line down. Nancy S bowled well and Emma H took an outstanding catch as backstop (one of the best catches I have seen from a backstop player!) It was also super to see run outs at 1st post with Emma H and Lily S working well together – backstop to 1st post. Overall it was a good team effort but S. Anselm’s really needed to improve on reacting to the ball once it had been hit. This was a focus for the second innings. Terra Nova scored a healthy 11 rounders and it was all to play for in the second innings.

In the second innings, Captain Lily S and Olivia C batted brilliantly from the first ball bowled scoring full rounders straight away. This was followed by Fran F, Emma H, Roxanne B and yet another rounder from the captain. It was also super to see Roxanne, Lily, Lucy, Emma, Fran, Olivia and Chloe all scoring half rounders and increasing the score line ball by ball. Nancy S unfortunately was run out on 3rd post early on and after Hattie R hitting the ball so well in the second innings was unfortunately run out on fourth post after potentially scoring ½ rounder – but it was a valiant effort by both players. In the second innings, S. Anselm’s scored a further 13 rounders which meant that they scored a total of 28 ½ rounders which was a tough score for Terra Nova to beat. S. Anselm’s went in to field and they were so determined to keep the score line down. Outstanding bowling from Nancy S ensured that key batters from Terra Nova were out early on. The tight fielding included super catches from Chloe R-S, Fran and Lily. But also the exceptional fielding from Backstop (Emma H) and 1st post (Lily S) ensured that 6 players were out. By the 17th ball S. Anselm’s had 8 players out from Terra Nova which meant that it came to the best of three balls for their final player. She managed to score a final rounder for Terra Nova and by the 18th Ball bowled; Terra Nova had all been bowled out. It was a fine performance by S. Anselm’s. Terra Nova scored 3 ½ rounders in the second innings which meant that the final score for Terra Nova was 14 ½ rounders. Final score: S. Anselm’s 28 ½ and Terra Nova 14 ½. Well done to all U13 players, you really did deserve an impressive win today. Onwards and upwards!
