Result: Witham 15 rubbers – SA 6 rubbers

              4 drawn rubbers

POM Hannah S

The girls played a similar format to the rounders with timed 15 minute games or the first pair to 4 games, against each pair.  Hannah and Izzy were slow to get into their stride and lost to the Witham 1st pair. But then went onto win very convincingly against the rest. Hannah’s serve and forehand were decisive factors in the games and she used them to her advantage. Emily and Eliza had some good matches but suffered from lack of movement and lacked strength in their ground shots. Immy and Lucy had a few surprise results and took a number of games from Witham. Again lack of movement and poor positioning on court means they can’t play to the best of their ability.

Cecily and Annie playing as 4th pair had no great expectations of doing well and as a result didn’t play particularly good tennis. They both have good ground strokes but again seemed to have grown roots and found moving very difficult which in turn makes it difficult to execute effective shots.

Eleanor and Charlotte were our surprise pair who put in lots of effort and got the results. What they lacked in ability they made up for with determination!

The girls demonstrated their flair for social tennis but need to develop a competitive edge for future fixtures.
