Overall the standard of play from the S. Anselm’s team was really first class. At times, the team’s passing under pressure suffered but we must remember that we are still very early on in the season. Alice S and Annie G- P worked tirelessly in the shooting circle and once again did not disappoint. Ella N certainly got stronger and stronger as the tournament progressed and Arabella H was a stick of dynamite at Centre. She not only captained the team brilliantly, her performance on court throughout the whole tournament was breathtaking. Arabella A started off the tournament at WD and marked the WA tightly, whilst Erin S and Georgina H remained a solid wall which put the opposing shooters under constant pressure. It was fantastic to see Ella R starring in the 1st VII, her commitment to training has been particularly impressive and her performance today at the tournament certainly showed that all her hard work is really paying off. The 1st VII had a really good set of first round matches particularly against Bromsgrove. They went through to the semi finals and met their dear friends the S. Anselm’s U12A team. What a fantastic achievement to have two teams in the semi finals! This match was exciting and such a high quality standard. The S. Anselm’s parents certainly did us proud with the cheering, it was wonderful to see and hear them all during the semi final match. The U13A won 5 - 4 and it was the match of the day. Unfortunately Georgina H had a collision and had to go off court before the end of the game but she was adamant to be on the court for the final! She really is a determined girl! In the final against Foremarke, it was end to end ball, there was no score for the majority of the match 0 – 0. Annie G- P and Arabella H both attacked the ball well. However, Foremarke got a break in play off the S. Anselm’s centre pass and went 1 – 0 up. With only seconds to go, Foremarke took their centre pass and scored with a few seconds to go. It was a disappointing end to the match but when Mrs Northcott looks at the standard of netball that is being played so early on in the season, she really is very very proud of her team. It was a great end to the day to see the 1st VII receiving their silver medals and Captain Heapy delivered an excellent speech to thank Foremarke for a super day of netball. Mrs Northcott would like to say a huge Well done to the 1st VII team and many congratulations to both the U13A and U12A teams for an exceptional display of netball throughout the whole day. Another great moment was Arabella H presenting a silver medal to Imo C ( GK for the U12A) for her outstanding play and nominated ( by the 1st VII team) as player of the tournament for the U12A S. Anselm’s team – fully deserved! Well done to all and a huge thank you to all the parents for their support, cheering and for setting an electric atmosphere up on the balcony! MPN
