U13 A JET Rounders Competition v Denstone College
Monday 27th April 2009
What started as a promising highly competitive match as Immy W took a great catch from the 7th ball, soon disintegrated into some of the worst rounders that the girls have ever played. Lack of concentration, dropped catches, inaccurate throwing, poor tactical decisions and most importantly a complete lack of desire to win led to Denstone scoring15 rounders in their first batting innings.
The Denstone bowler was a force to be reckoned with but the girls all made contact with the ball and against a weaker team would have made a few more half rounders. However we were totally outclassed by a team that wanted to win and fielded superbly. Charlotte Perkins took the risks that paid off and forced the errors from Denstone. A slippery surface caused the girls to be a little cautious but lack of urgency allowed Denstone to take a catch and stump another player caught dawdling between posts. With only 6 rounders scored we were put into bat again and fell like skittles as balls were put high in the air and soundly caught by the Denstone fielders. We scored only 2 rounders in the 2nd innings so gave Denstone a 15 -8 victory with an innings in hand. Not a good performance at all from a year group who have fought so hard in hockey and netball. Focus, competitiveness and attitude will help gain a victory as the girls have all the skills but don’t apply them!
Score 15 – 8 to Denstone
