Before the match, the S.Anselm’s only had a short warm up and this certainly showed in their first 5 minutes of the game. After the team had got used to playing 7 a side they started to produce lots of positive play particularly on the wings. Nancy J and Gerogia R-S both listened key advice of run with the ball and that is what they did. In the first half the game was pretty much 50/50 and S. Anselm’s most certainly were not the under dogs! However, Foremarke had one player (CH) who dominated the game, she played defence, midfield and forward. This player was the one who did the damage on the pitch. In the first half we had a variety of shots on goal but the shots were just not strong enough to fall into the back of the goal. However, the Foremarke (CH) player continued to pressurise with her pitch play and short corner play and in the first half went on to score 2 goals. However, Emily G-P reacted to this pressure by scoring confidently before the second half whistle. The half time score was
2-1. The S. Anselm’s team needed to gain confidence in their own play and the aim was to up our game in the second half ( of which the team did!). Defensively we made a lot less mistakes and in attack we were hitting the ball less and moving the ball. However, the CH from Foremarke once again dominated the play and went on to score another 2 goals. Grace B ( GK) made some exceptional saves and had, yes another great game! The final score 4 – 1 loss. The feeling amongst the S. Anselm’s team was a bit low but on a positive note, this tight match highlighted 3 key areas for the S. Anselm’s team to work on in order for them to be ready for the IAPS Regional Finals. One thing that the S. Anselm’s U13A team need to remember is that one player does not make a whole team, mark that player out of the game and the match has a whole new perspective!! We have another tough match on Saturday v Denstone and it is all to play for! MPN
