Player of the match – Millie C for superb stops in the deep, for taking some great catches and always looking for the stump too, in order to get two players out!

A good game, with our girls really batting well. Having lost the toss we were put into bat first and scored a respectable 10½. Georgie H was on fire and belted the ball impressively, and plenty of the team looked for the gaps and ran fast to keep gaining the halves. The girls capitalised on the Grace Dieu fielding errors and Nancy J, Fleur G, Freya H and Ally H, all assisted with the scoring tally, batting powerfully.

When fielding the girls on the whole played well and remained focussed. Millie C was excellent and covered a lot of ground, taking some great catches, reaching down low for the big hits and running in for stumps too. Poppy M also played well to stump out a lot of players at 2^nd, whilst Nancy J outwitted plenty of the Grace Dieu big hitters, by mixing up her bowling style impressively.

In the second innings our girls showed batting consistency, scoring just one less then the first innings. We took full advantage of the behind hits, in order to sneak a full rounder after a miss throw by Grace Dieu. Our fielding was not quite as tight in the second innings in places, with a few wayward fields, when we should have returned the ball to Nancy and kept it tight. That said the girls ensured all of the Grace Dieu team were out by ball 26, with Ally H, (who stepped in to play backstop for us today), finishing the game in style, taking a catch from behind, then stumping the rest of the team out in the bowling square.

All in all a good way to finish the season and your fixtures at S. Anselm’s girls. You have been great fun to coach over the years and have enjoyed a lot of success in all of the sports – I wish you all the best of luck at your future schools and look forward to welcoming you all back next summer for the Leavers match!
