What a superb squad effort today! With players out due to injury, illness and scholarship days, the U13 1st VII and U13 2nd VII players certainly stepped up to the mark. After a minibus drive to Bruno Mars this week and an extra boogy on board to track 4, the team were motivated and raring to go!
In the first match V Hill House, the team certainly got off to a flying start. Alice S and Annie G-P popped in the goals time after time and really looked top class on court. Ella N and Arabella H attacked so well and released outstanding balls into the shooters which really put Hill house under pressure. Erin S as Goal Keeper kept Hill House scoreline to the bare minimum, she worked well with U12A player Georgia R who was an excellent and crucial addition to the team for today in match 1! Arabella A worked hard to bring the ball up out of defence and pressured centre passes well.
Overall the team played up beat netball in very cold conditions ( I think Bruno Mars certainly had something to do with this!)
In the second match, it was certainly a different standard and S. Anselm’s had to improve their game. With new addition GA Isobel H who stepped in to save the day, tactics were discussed at speed and it was great to see the team so supportive. Isobel was calm, focussed and ready for action. The whole match was end to end netball. Westbourne had a very very tall Goal Attack who was a key player and it was important for the team to pick this up and utilise the team members well and play the S. Anselm’s own game. Annie G- P was excellent once again, to play out of position in at Goal defence and centre of which she did so well, as did Captain Heap who also played some inspirational netball at centre then worked hard to gain crucial possession in at Goal defence. Arabella A and Ella N both played consistently on the wings and well under pressure. Ella in particular sent useful balls into Alice S to ensure that the scoreline remained in tact. Isobel H had the game of her life, not only were the team proud of her, but Mrs N was once again very emotional on the side of the court to see Isobel and the team really playing good solid cohesive netball against a tough side. Westbourne have certainly been the toughest side so far this term that we have faced and we still dug deep and were determined not to lose the match. The final score was 21 – 17. It was a fantastic game, with having 3 players out today from the 1st VII and to still produce the standard that we did, this certainly shows that hard training from all U12 and U13 players at S. Anselm’s pays off. I am very proud of all the teams today – a great day for netball at S. Anselm’s. Congratulations to all the teams from U8 level up to U13 level. Roll on the season! MPN
