U13A v Mount St Marys Won 39-3

Players of the match: Georgina H and Emily G-P
What a super match today! After a brisk warm up, the game got started. Mount St Mary’s were a very tall team but S. Anselm’s did not let that stand in their way. Georgina H as Goal shooter started off the first quarter with confident shots on goal, along with Georgia R-S, Nancy J and Poppy M standing their ground in the centre court. The main focus for the first quarter was release the first time ball with confidence and when this was evident the sequence of play down the court was magical. It was super to see Charlotte P, Emily G-P, Millie C and Georgia R-S practising the backline set plays which certainly startled the Mount St Mary’s team. At the end of the first quarter the score was 12 – 0 to S. Anselm’s. Millie C, Emily G-P and Charlotte P continued to dominate their opponents and force the opposition to make mistakes and the attack flowed the ball beautifully from one end to the other. In order for the team to gain valuable experience out of this particular game, the team were given key coaching areas to work on. In the second quarter – turning in the air to receive the ball and delivery of a strong pass. In the third and fourth quarter backline set plays, quality of pass and attacking circle play with the shooters and centre court players. It was lovely to see Freya H (WD) determined to ensure tips and interceptions in the mid court. Poppy M and Georgina H both worked in unison in the shooting circle and worked hard to keep the opposition on their toes. The final score was 39 – 3, a convincing win and lots of super play. However, it was still clear that there are key elements to work on for the more pressurised matches. Well done to all players – keep up the good work in training and you will be rewarded in match play. Thank you to all the parents for their fantastic support and I look forward to the champagne at some stage Mr Caudwell! MPN
