Player of the match – Poppy Miller

A very frustrating result for our under 13 girls, in a game which saw them with 75% possession of the ball, throughout the game. We had countless opportunities to score, with at least ten short corners being awarded to us, but just could not find the final finish. Our shots at goal were lethargic and lacked strength or power. We also tended to aim them straight at the goalie, rather than looking for the gaps.

Our mid players, Chloe R-S, Poppy M, Nancy J and Emily GP, worked their socks off to feed the ball through to the forwards, but the forwards, particularly in the second half pressed up a little too far, so the ball rarely made it through to them. We need to remember to send the ball wide and go through on their non stick side.

The one goal of the game came from a Mount St. Mary’s short corner near to half time. Our defence were shockingly slow to run out, in fact they ambled out, giving the Mount’s forward plenty of timer to size up her shot. She hit it very powerfully into the goal at a cracking pace, giving Goal Keeper Ellie W very little chance of saving it. We must remember to go in for the tackles girls and not shirk our duties! A late night, the night before had definitely caused our girls to be tired and they were not firing on all cylinders. We can learn much from this game and will work on the afore-mentioned areas in our next few practices.
