Outstanding Player of the match – Georgia R-S
What a fine start to the season! It has been a particularly impressive 10 days for the U13A hockey team. Each training session has been enjoyable and it has been a great pleasure seeing all the girls up for Fitness, hard work, ready to learn new skills and tactics and are eager for more – great! What more can a coach want! It was time to test the team with their first competitive match of the season V Oakham. Once again it was great to see the girls playing on astro and gaining valuable experience. Mr Brock led the team and his feedback was particularly impressive and informative. Overall the match was a good game had by all. It was super to see S. Anselm’s providing persistent pressure particularly in the midfield and forward positions. It was great to see Georgia and Millie using the wings productively and setting up the ball into the S. Anselms D for the forwards, Fleur, Georgina and Nancy to finish off spectacularly with shots on goal. It was super to see so much possession in the S.Anselm’s attacking half which was eventually rewarded by goals scored. At half time the score was 1-0 and after a solid half time team talk, each player on the pitch was given key areas to work on in the second half. Georgia R-S in particular showed expertise in transferring the tactics given at half time onto the pitch within minutes and she continued to do this for the remainder of the match. Defensively the backs and mids certainly played their part in the second half. They started to gain more confidence and defended very high whilst maintaining defensive cover. Another super goal was scored and the eventual result was a super win 2-0 to S. Anselm’s. Well done girls! Mr Brock also highlighted how well they rotated players on the pitch. In his own words “ Tactical substitutions were made throughout the match which resulted in gained possession and opportunities on goal”. Well done Grace and Ellie for making key saves at crucial times and congratulations to the whole team for a great start to the term. Many thanks go to Oakham School for a successful day of hockey and also to all the S. Anselm’s parents for travelling to Oakham to support our teams. Roll on Mt St Mary’s in 2 days time! Mr Brock
