A great first match for the under 13A team, who despite the snow, have trained incredibly hard in the run up to this game. We were off to a slick start with our centres and passing being strong and our interceptions being well-timed, enabling us to gain and keep possession of the ball. It took a while (3 minutes to be precise), for us to score our first goal, although we did have plenty of opportunities, and this is still an area our shooters need to work on – keep up the break time practise please girls! However, they quickly made up for lost chances and by the end of the first quarter we were comfortably 7 – 0 up.
In the second quarter Millie C upped her game, springing from nowhere to make superb interceptions and the Oakham attack found it difficult to feed the ball into the shooters. When they did Charlotte P made scoring very difficult, and Emily G-P worked hard to assist the flow of the ball up the court. We scored a further 8 goal in this quarter, despite the goal being misshapen and bendy!
Oakham found their form in the third quarter, scoring four goals, but our girls kept their heads, adjusted well to the addition of Poppy M to the shooting and scored a further five. Georgia R-S’ passes into the D were superb and she took every opportunity possible to win the ball off the opposition, marking tightly and anticipating passes well. Nancy J also proved to be a key player in attack, ensuring the path of the ball into our shooters was safe and secure. By the 4th quarter some of our play did become a little sloppy, we need to ensure our passes are strong and direct and cut out the loopy loops, which are very easy to intercept. That said we once again dominated the play, with Fleur and Poppy gelling well and added another five to our total, whilst Oakham scored one.
A super result and good, solid team performance, well played everyone and keep up the hard work!
