Player of the match – Freya H for solid batting and plucky play; and quick reactions when fielding.
A disappointing final result for our under 13 girls, in a game which saw them not firing on all cylinders it has to be said. Our fielding in both innings was awesome, and very tight, with us giving the Ranby House girls few chances to score. We took and held some great catches, with Fleur, Freya, Georgie, Nancy, Millie and Emily all contributing to the downfall of the Ranby batters. In the second innings our fielding was again slick and although they adapted well to Nancy’s varied bowling, our deeps ensured certain whole rounders were kept to a half.
If only our batting had matched our fielding though! This area was certainly very disappointing, and we did not look for the gaps in the Ranby field. Too many girls also hit the ball into the air, resulting in being caught out by the Ranby team. Our second innings went slightly better, but we still had a tendency to hit it up into the air and a few rash decisions made by our team near the end of the game saw our whole team being out, with four more balls to bowl, resulting in us losing by a mere one and a half rounders. Lots of batting practice on Monday I feel – come on you S.A. sloggers, a little more consistency please!
