U13A V Ranby U13A
Wednesday 11th Feb 2008
Held at Ranby House
S.Anselm's U13A WON 15 - 11
POM Charlotte Perkins WD
After a week off matches due to snow, the U13A team were hungry for their crunch match of the season. Over the past week the U13A team have had the luxury of aqua aerobics in the pool, fitness netball drills in the sports hall, extra U12A and U13A practices in the sports hall and a final practice against the senior boys on Monday which certainly made the girls step up to the mark! As the S. Anselm's team headed off to Ranby in the snow, Mrs Northcott put on the disco mix 1996 to get the girls' motivated and ready for action. Starting with "I will survive" Gloria Gaynor!
After a successful warm up the U13A team looked well warmed up and ready for a tough match. S. Anselm's won the toss and within 30 seconds in the first quarter S. Anselm's scored their first goal. The team were hot off the mark and left a surprised Ranby standing still! Immy W, Cecily C-E and Emily D attacked the ball well, in particular Emily who continued to time her move to perfection. The attack looked for Hannah S to give her the first time ball into the circle and she was positioned brilliantly to allow that ball in. When Ranby had possession, S. Anselm's put pressure on and marked tightly which allowed Issy E and Charlotte P to pick up interceptions and convert that possession into goals. At the end of the first quarter the score was an impressive 5 - 1 to S. Anselm's.
In the second quarter, Ranby put the pressure on however, with tight marking from the S. Anselm's defence especially Lucy E, we managed to continue to convert centre passes into goals. The Ranby centre court continued to get frustrated as Lucy continued to intercept the long loopy ball in their GS and S. Anselm's were determined to keep possession and make minimal mistakes. The half time score was a superb 9 - 5 to S. Anselm's.
After a super first half from Cecily C - E, she handed over to Eliza W who was making her welcomed come back into the A team. After seeing Eliza in action over the past few practices she certainly was up for a super game. She did not disappoint! Like Cecily in the first half, Eliza continued to drive out hard on centre passes and worked the ball skilfully amongst Emily and Hannah in the circle. Even when the Ranby Defence put a double mark on Hannah, Eliza and Immy changed their game plan and worked the ball brilliantly into Emily who positioned well in shooting circle. Defensively, we were tight and Charlotte, Issy and Lucy marked hard enough to ensure that Ranby felt pressurised and force errors in the Ranby attacking third. The overall score was S. Anselm's won 15 - 11. What a super game and a pleasure to umpire! It was an impressive performance by the whole team. Well done girls - still lots to work on before the Regional IAPS tournament but lots of positive outcomes from the days match performance. What also finished off the day brilliantly was the U13 then went on to watch the U12's play and they also finished with a fine win 16 - 6. A great day had by all! Once again thank you to all the parents who travelled over to Ranby to support and encourage our teams.
