S. Anselm's U13A XI V Ranby House U13A XI ( AWAY at Ranby House)
RESULT: S. Anselms WON 2 - 0
POM Hannah Staniforth and Immy W
S. Anselm's U13A were ready to face one of their toughest matches of the season V Ranby House. It was super to see Poppy M and Emily G- P making their debut for the 1st XI and with a strong attack and defence out - we were determined for a solid match with lots of positive play. In the first half S. Anselm's dominated the first 5 minutes and Ranby were slow to start. S. Anselm's took advantage of this with a perfect opportunity in the D and Hannah S finished off a super attack on Goal. S. Anselm's went into the lead 1 - 0. This really had an impact on the Ranby team. They certainly picked up their game and went on to attack continuously. Emily G-P, Cecily C - E, Issy E and Poppy M were quick to react and win the ball. At times there was a lapse in defensive play but predominantly Eleanor R, Emily D and Eliza W worked very hard to keep the ball in the S. Anselm's attacking half. In the first half the passing could have been stronger and this was to be the main focus in the second half. After a good team talk at half time, S. Anselm's were ready to strike the ball hard and use the width of the pitch. The scoreline at half time was 1 - 0 to S. Anselm's.
The match in the second half was extremely even. However, when S. Anselm's put the pressure on they produced excellent attacking play. Emily D, Eliza W, Emily G - P and Eleanor R went into top gear and fought extremely hard to win the ball. They delivered the ball well into Charlotte P, Immy W and Hannah W as the forwards and put pressure on time after time. Charlotte P was very unlucky not to score however, she positioned really well in the game and her defending today was top class. Poppy M and Annie B were kept on their toes in the second half with Ranby providing a couple of good opportunities in their attacking D. However this pressure did not phase Cecily, Annie and Poppy and they skilfully and confidently cleared the ball out to the wings. It also kept Emma K ( GK) focussed and ready for the shots on goal. Once the ball was out to The wing players they set up some super opportunities into Charlotte, Immy and Hannah. Hannah S once again had an attack on goal and hit the ball confidently and accurately. S. Anselm's went 2 - 0 up and they stepped up their play for the final few minutes of the game. A S. Anselm's short corner was called 5 seconds from the end of the match. S. Anselm's just couldn't finish it off in the D and the final score was a creditable WIN 2 - 0 to S. Anselm's. Overall it was an excellent game to finish off a super season. A great result - Well done to all girls.
