U13A v Terra Nova

U13A V Terra Nova U13A

Held at Terra Nova

Wednesday 4th March 2009

S.Anselm's WON 11 - 2

POM Poppy Miller ( as selected by Terra Nova)

After a long journey through the snow we were relieved to arrive at Terra Nova in the sunshine. Unfortunately one of the opposition had just suffered a bad accident and we had a delay to the start until the ambulance departed.

The girls were a little dozy and without Hannah to keep them in order they were slow to get going. Poppy stepped up to the mark and stood in as GS but not having worked with the U13s some of the set plays failed to deliver. As Emily was marked by a tall GD it was essential that Poppy get free to receive the incoming ball and score. She settled and started to notch up the shots.

The match was quite feisty with both teams fighting hard for possession. Lucy's windmill action was very effective when Terra Nova were shooting and she maintained her distance instead of creeping in. She also made some of the better passes, good long, strong and direct. Centre court passes tended to be weak loopy chest passes to a receiver who was running backwards. Terra Nova took advantage of this and made numerous interceptions. Spacing and footwork was generally very good but the ball was end to end and many opportunities were thrown away.
