Player of the match ( voted by the Terra Nova team – Nancy John)
On a very cold Wednesday afternoon, snow was on the ground and Bakewell looked once again, like a picturesque ski resort and there was more snow to come. However, this did not phase the U13A side. They warmed up well and were ready for action. The team were certainly ready to heat up Court One with their fabulous play. Georgia R-S ( C), Nancy J (WA), Poppy M ( GA) and Fleur G ( GS) played effective centre court and attacking play which resulted in early shots on goal. Once the Terra Nova team reacted to the fast confident play, Charlotte P ( GK) and Emily G-P ( GD) certainly defended the ball well with well timed interceptions. Millie C (WD) certainly impressed spectators and players on the court with constant pressure on Terra Nova’s centre passes and super attacking play. She also timed her move brilliantly as she brought the ball from defence into attack. At quarter time the score was already 8 – 0 and there was still lots of tactical play to work on with more accurate passing and solid play. Georgina H came onto court as GS with Poppy M playing GA, the goals were certainly going, as the snow increased. Backline set plays were evident in S. Anselm’s play and the team performed brilliantly together. At half time, the score was 18 – 0. After half time due to the snow, the second half had to be cut short to 6 minute quarters. Freya H ( WD ) joined the team and played confidently with style. She ensured key tips and interceptions as a defender and displayed that she can deliver the ball calmly into attack. Fleur G ( GS) returned to the court and in the final quarter shot some outstanding goals and certainly looked like she was enjoying the dominance of her shooting circle. Poppy M had a super game today as GA and her work with Georgina H (GS) certainly allowed the rest of the team to have confidence in the attacking play. Overall, when the team timed their move and sent solid passes into the space, their play had sparkle and they certainly had that X factor. The final result was 33 – 0 but I am confident as their coach that there is more to come…………
Thank you to all parents for their support in such cold conditions, you are very much valued not only by your daughters but also myself! MPN
