Player of the match – Nancy J for feisty batting and awesome bowling and Georgia R-S for great backstopping, catches and stumping

A disappointing result for the under 13 girls, who to be fair were lacking a couple of key players for this game due to illness and injury. That said, we were a little lethargic as we took to the field, perhaps due to the twisty coach journey over the ‘Cat and Fiddle’, or prospect of the beckoning C.E! Having lost the toss we were put into bat and struggled to hit the ball with real power. We were good at taking our chances and scoring the halves; but we are still hitting the ball into the air and not down, so being caught. Terra Nova in contrast had some very strong batters and our deeps fluffed too many catches and did not get down for the balls, attempting to stop it with one hand. We regained composure, with some excellent work by Backstop Georgia and 1st post Fleur. Terra Nova were 1½ rounders up at half time though.

In the second innings the girls took full advantage of the ‘stealing’ rule, and Terra Nova’s lack of knowledge of it, to keep bringing the batters home. Hattie H and Nancy J worked really hard as our last two batters to keep the score going, but again our batting was inconsistent. After some good catches and stumps, we managed to keep Terra Nova’s big hitters in check, but more desperate antics in the deep aided them to victory, although Millie C was superb in this innings.

Let us regain composure for our next games against Lady Manners and Grace Dieu girls and finish the season on a high, with everyone batting and fielding to full ability!
