U13A v Terra Nova, Won 32 - 6

Wednesday 1st February 2012.

1st VII Netball V Terra Nova
Played at Terra Nova

Score : S. Anselm’s WON 32 - 6

Player of the match : Georgina H.

After a long journey in the minibus over the hilltops full of ice and snow we finally arrived at Terra Nova School. The team quickly warmed up and were anxious to get going. In the first quarter, it was disappointing to see that S. Anselm’s were really not put under any pressure, the score at quarter time was 8 – 0 to S. Anselm’s. Georgina H and Arabella H both worked hard despite the rest of the team playing rather scrappy netball. Even though the scoreline was favouring S. Anselm’s, their play was certainly not impressive and it was time to step up a gear. In the second quarter, the centre court players Jess R-S, Arabella H, Annie G-P, Ella R and Ella N worked better as far as timing was concerned, but because the team were not put under pressure, silly mistakes were still evident. However, it was good to see Erin S and Georgina H continuing to pressurise and gain possession of the ball. At half time the score was
17 – 3 and it was time for Mrs N to give players key area’s to work on. Alice and Annie focussed on accuracy of first time shot on goal and circle play, centre court players focussed on channel play and early positioning off the ball, defence Ella R, Erin S and Georgina H focussed on forcing the opposition to make a mistake and breakdown the Terra Nova attacking play. It did give the S. Anselm’s players more to think about, and they started to focus on their individual play. The ¾ time score was 26 – 4, and final score was 32 – 6. The match on Wednesday really was quite disappointing; however it highlighted a key area for Mrs Northcott to address in her next training session. She went straight home and started planning! The day finished with a focussed team talk about the next few crucial weeks that lay ahead of us. The team listened carefully and were ready for training on Friday.

Remember girls………..

“Your determination to succeed, lies first within your mind and then within your heart. Utilize both your mind and body to attain your goals and you will be triumphant.”

Many thanks to our parents for their support on the sidelines, particularly in minus temperatures! MPN
