S.Anselm's WON 19 - 10
POM Emily D - Goal Attack
On Wednesday 28th January, the U13A team went to Trent knowing that they had a challenge on their hands. Last year the result was 18 - 18 and this year it was all to play for.
In the first quarter, S. Anselm's put the pressure on from the umpires whistle to start the game. It was super to see Eleanor R making her debut in the A team as Goal Defence. In defence we were tight and the man to man marking was top class against very tall Trent Shooters. At the end of the first quarter S.Anselm's were in the lead by 3 goals. Hannah S and Emily D started off confidently and all they needed to do was keep composed and take their time on their shots. The centre court players Immy, Charlotte, Cecily and Georgia provided S. Anselm's with many opportunities to convert possession into goals scored. The girls really worked hard on their timing of their move and they realised that they had to keep the passes short and drive hard due to the height of the opposition. At times the play was quick and impressive. However, it was inevitable that Trent would double mark Hannah S (Goal Shooter) before the 4th quarter. Emily D certainly listened to the key advice given to conquer this problem and Hannah thought about her circle positioning which allowed Emily to receive the ball uninterrupted in the circle and make accurate shots on goal. This advance move for the shooters looked slick and confidently played. As the shooters continued to pop their shots in the net, the rest of the teams play went into top gear. Lucy and Eleanor in defence marked tightly and they sent super passes into the centre court. Georgia R-S looked fit and skilful as centre, whilst Cecily and Charlotte were unstoppable on the wings.
Overall the U13 match was a very tight and competitive game to umpire. Trent certainly battled on until the final whistle. However, it was fair to say that S.Anselm's were the stronger team and deserved a 19 - 10 win. Well done to all players - another super win! MPN
