U12/13B v Oakham Wednesday 21st January 2009
S. Anselm's WON 8 - 2 V Oakham School
PoM: Sarah W - for some super shooting and for heeding her Headmaster's encouragement to "leap like a salmon"!
Well it really was a game of 5 "quarters"! Given the distance the visitors had travelled and the number of girls each side was able to field, it was agreed that we played an extra quarter - a great opportunity for everyone to have a really good share of the excitement.
The game saw some steady goal scoring from the shooters, always maintaining a healthy lead over the opposition. Eliza W proved a very able and very versatile member of the squad, with some sporting captaincy too. Eleanor R stood out as a key defender and proved time and again how important her role and position was to the team's success. It was a sound effort from every individual, and congratulations must go to everyone for a well played game. We look forward to a return visit next season!
Thanks must also go to Miss Newell for so ably managing the keen and competitive squad, always ensuring we had the right girl ready to join, at the right time - not forgetting of course her prowess in French braiding the girls' hair so beautifully. I know the girls will miss her and thank her for all her support and encouragement to date. We very much hope that she will come back and visit us in the not too distant future - hairbrush to hand!
