Players of the match – Nancy S for great catches and feisty batting and Nancy J for awesome bowling and fabulous batting.
This was really a game of two halves, with Wellow dominating play in the first innings. Having won the toss, captain Georgia elected to field first and we kept it tight, with a few exceptions. Nancy J was on fine bowling form and proved to be superb at outwitting the Wellow batters. They were unable to hit her fast bowls and her donkey drops mixed it up nicely. Backstop Georgia and first post Fleur worked well together again, whilst deeps Freya and Georgie were very quick to react. When it came to batting we had left all of our big hits in the changing room it seemed, and those that did go far were invariably up in the air, leading to catches left, right and centre. By ball 31 we were all out and had only squeezed 4 rounders.
We were on awesome fielding form in the second innings, with Nancy J once again bowling superbly. This innings saw Nancy S in the deep, despite being a bowler herself, she was super, taking several fabulous catches and throwing very accurately to Poppy M on second, who stumped plenty of players out. By ball 22 all the Wellow team were out, only adding a further 3 to their total. The girls had to bat well in this innings to maintain the great play and win the game. We lasted all 36 balls, with 2 remaining batters at the end. Although we struggled to score many full rounders, we took our chances and put the fielders under pressure to score the halves. By the end of the innings we had sneaked ahead to take the game, well played all, an exciting game to watch and umpire! Well played to our three under 12 girls who stepped in at the last minute to fill in for our under 13 girls who were away at their scholarships, well done!
