Player of the match – Hattie H for superb batting.
What a glorious start to the season! The sun was shining and the girls excited to play their first match for almost a year. We agreed to play two innings – each of 36 good balls. Ellie W organised the girls well and the toss won, the decision was taken to field first. Tactics and strategy soon came back to the girls and we managed to get all but one of the opposition out with some particularly intelligent fielding between Georgy H at back-stop and Jess R-S at 2nd post. We were a little rusty with our batting – only managing to score 3 whole rounders in the first innings as against M.S.M.’s 7; but we bagged some cheeky little halves – mainly thanks to some smart play by Hattie H.
The second innings showed some good play too. Our deeps were well-tested by one particularly big hitter on the M.S.M team. Sadly Ally H was injured, but Hattie H stepped in very ably; and Georgia D and Hattie R had to dig deep for some stretching throws. Our second turn to bat proved we had our eye in a little better. Charlotte P and Grace B managed to connect bat and ball very well and upped our whole rounders tally. Congratulations should very definitely also go to Annie G-P who bowled accurately and consistently throughout giving away only the bare minimal half rounders – well done, not easy first game back.
