Finally the snow had cleared and the girls were keen to get the netball season underway. This they did in style. We played four quarters, each of 10 minutes. During their first competitive quarter of the season the girls took a moment or two to settle, against a team that was both taller and older on average than our girls. The pretty nippy conditions meant the girls had to work harder to control the ball, but all credit to the girls, they soon found their stride and settled in to work well together as a cohesive unit.
Grace B was awarded PoM for some excellent marking and great interceptions, with some quick all round game play and intelligent reading of the game. Freya H stepped up to the mark, slightly out of position, but proved to be a great GS, sinking some super shots; and demonstrated some wonderful court play with her GAs. Lydia F played a very strong game too and dug deep to continue through the final quarter after taking a nasty tumble when we were without the luxury of a reserve. Some great work from the whole team meant we were in a winning position from the end of the first quarter and we held onto this advantage until the final whistle.
Well done to all the girls – a great start to the season, keep it up! And thank you to the supporting parents on a very cold sideline. MM
