Foremarke kindly offered to host all of our junior girls for this festival of hockey, on their astro-turf. For the under 8 girls this was their first opportunity to represent the school in a match and they were all very excited. The under 8 girls had been divided into two teams of 4 and this enabled all of them to have plenty of touches of the ball and match experience. The girls demonstrated some super stick skills and fantastic attacking play, working hard to bring the ball down the pitch and score goals. In defence we made some good stops, but now need to work on sending the ball forwards to our attacking players. The atmosphere was super and all of the girls enjoyed the experience. Thank you to all the parents for helping to make this such a positive experience for the girls.
Players of the match - Rosie W and Eloise S.
The under 9 girls played three 7 aside games, on half an astro. For all three games they spent the majority of the time attacking and had the majority of the possession of the ball; with the mids working hard to keep the ball and bring it down the pitch. Unfortunately today nobody seemed to want to finish off the ball into the D and normally this is not the case for these girls. The forwards tended to hang back and not seize their opportunities, allowing the opposition to clear the ball and did not put their usual pressure on them. The defence for the majority of the time were super, timing their tackles well and clearing the ball down the wings. On the odd oaccasion they did not clear the ball or sent it down the middle channel, they allowed the opposition to score. All three goals occurred from lapses in concentration by the defence and the three results do not fairly reflect the effort made by our girls for the majority of play. However, girls, you need to finish the ball off if you are going to score and not just stop at the edge of the D! Thank you to all our loyal supporters for their encouragement and great cheering throughout the morning. A good effort girls, but let's have some goals next Wednesday please!!

Overall the day was certainly a highlight of my season. To see the super U8 girls ready for their first match of the year was a day to remember. I woke up feeling anxious, tense, nervous and I was only the coach! After a good sing song on the bus, the mini bus entered the Foremarke car park to be greeted by CAPTAIN ELOISE and then we saw CAPTAIN ROSIE. We were all ready for action! We had a quick kit check and then another kit check and then another one, just to be sure. We were on our way.
After a thorough warm up on astro, the girls were passing and moving well. The Red and Blue team both had a 4V4 mini match against each other to prepare them for their first match against Foremarke.
Overall it was fantastic to see Rosie, Ursula, Annabelle, Talulla and Eloise all moving the ball onto strong stick side and controlling the ball confidently. We saw solid shots on goal from Rosie, Ursula and Annabelle. What was particularly impressive was the determination to win possession of the ball and once possession was gained our players then penetrated the ball quickly into attack. Eloise, Rosie and Ursula were certainly impressive in these areas! Amy B, Sophie T, Thea W who played key defensive roles today were all monitoring the defence well. It was excellent to see when the opposition were pressurising, the defence were calm, they tackled cleanly and cleared the ball well. Well done!
As the matches progressed, it was clear that the girls had been listening and working hard in their games sessions. We were seeing all players stopping the ball well, dribbling and moving the ball with confidence and passing not only with strength but also on target. We even saw a few stick stops on the reverse stick and quick conversion of the ball onto the strong stick side and then dribbling to goal – WOW!
Overall it was a super morning of hockey, Mrs Northcott was very proud of all the girls and well done to the captains Eloise and Rosie for leading their teams superbly!
A huge thank you to our parents for their support on the sidelines – it was great to see you all!
