It was a squashed trip on the bus to Foremarke Hall and the anticipation from the players was building, when we got there and unloaded, the girls were ready and raring to go. The U9 B team was split into two teams of four, one captained by Francesca N, the other by Morgan G, who both completed their duties impressively. This was done so the girls could all have much more game action and touches of the ball, and worked really well.
The first game was against Foremarke Hall. Francesca’s team started off really well, with Lily defending the goal and Francesca N, Frankie and Katie marking fabulously and attacking at every chance they could get. An unlucky breakaway happened, with a hard shot taken, all got back to defend but Foremarke pushed through and were up one goal. In the second half they picked up and held most of the possession, with great passing all the girls worked together and scored an equaliser, making it one all by the end of the match.
On the other pitch, Morgan’s team were battling the second Foremarke side. Charlotte had a tough game but persisted well with some lovely defending and some excellent passes from her free hits. Morgan played well and dribbled the ball with control. Annie was showing great teamwork, working well with Francesca R to try and score some goals. The Foremarke team were a strong side and at home on their own astro, they managed to score three goals in this game, but we did manage to score one back.
Our matches were back to back and the second game started nearly straight away against Grace Dieu. Even though they had already played a game the girls’ fitness was definitely not lacking. Grace Dieu started with the ball on Morgan’s teams’ pitch but the ball was turned over quite fast with Francesca R putting in a lovely tackle. They worked together well with Charlotte doing some great defending, cleared the ball with Annie picking it up. Soon enough they had an attacking long corner. Morgan took it and did some fantastic dribbling with Annie and Francesca R making nice loud calls and they positioned themselves well.
On Francesca’s teams’ pitch - from the word go they were up and attacking. With Francesca N doing some beautiful passes and in no time Frankie R had put one away. With the excellent positional and passing play from Katie and help from Francesca N, Frankie R followed up her first goal with another two. Lily continued to show her skill and eye for the ball by stopping shots on goal from Grace Dieu and clearing them wide. In the second half Grace Dieu scored a goal back but the girls all pulled together and Francesca N scored a final goal, making our girls the victors.
The hockey filled morning, with so much running and effort put in by every one of the girls left them a little hungry. All teams went in for some match tea and it’s safe to say the triangular fixture was a success. Well done to the U9 B girls, some very impressive hockey was played by all!
