U8 v The Elms U9B Lost 5-1

U8 Squad: Forwards: Katie M, Francesca R, Francesca N; Halves: Annie M , Charlotte H; Backs: Morgan G, Lily W.

It was a freezing afternoon as the U9 B S. Anselm’s girls led The Elms team onto top field where the buzzing parents awaited the start of the match. From the starting whistle the energy on the pitch was phenomenal it was non-stop running for everyone. The Elms came out very strong in the first half fighting through the sturdy defence, scoring four goals. The girls didn’t lose their spirits though, Katie, Francesca N, Francesca R, Frankie R and Annie fought back and at the top of their attacking circle they were trying so hard to get past the defence, the ball shot out of the group and rolled across the goal line - making the score 4 - 1. Throughout the game Morgan stepped up and played a very tenacious back never letting the opposition get by without a fight. Lily also made a great effort in her defending, working well together with Morgan. Katie was doing some great work up the centre, making fantastic tackles and doing some lovely passes. Francesca R and Francesca N did some excellent leading and calling for the ball on the wings, also having a couple of good runs up to their attacking circle with help from the halves Annie and Frankie. In the second half there was a definite improvement in the girls’ game play. The defence worked hard and managed to only let one unfortunate goal in with the ending score being five to one. Overall the girls did extremely well, especially because The Elms girls were a year older and had more game experience compared to our young ones. Well done girls an excellent effort.
