U8 v Wellow

U8 v Wellow U9B
This was a tremendous opening match, beginning with real flourish from the home team. Anselm’s were always the dominant side and they easily slid ahead with a great goal of Harry T. Anselm’s lads really were up for the challenge and despite a lack of consistent passing they tackled with demonic ferocity if they lost possession. An attempt on goal was missed by James B, who miss-struck a one touch and sky’ed the ball, fortunately his second attempt a left foot effort found the net. Henry W was the next to show his class and put in a beauty midway through the second half. With several minutes still to play Anselm’s generously allowed the opposition to field their full squad and have a 2 player advantage. Well done chaps a great opener!

U8 v Wellow U9A
This was a real test for the S. Anselm’s Under 8s who had shown composure and skill against the Wellow U9B but now faced the more powerful and competitive Wellow U9A team. The match started promisingly with Henry W driving forward with the ball at his feet only to be challenged on the edge of their box. The Wellow boys had much more power in the strike making it difficult for the S. Anselm’s youngsters to keep pressure up in the Wellow end of the pitch. On a number of occasions Wello scored from a defensive clearance which allowed their quick striker to get on the end of it and calmly put it past keeper Edward M. Having said that there were some encouraging passages of play and some good chances on goal. At our end, Edward M pulled out a wonderful shot-stopper to amass of cheers from the crowd. Good effort boys!
