This was an excellent opportunity for our younger girls to not only represent their school in their first triangular fixture, but also sample playing on astro-turf, a quite different surface to grass. Foremarke hosted us very well, with the matches being fun and learning experience considerable. It was excellent to see so many parents enjoying the matches and supporting our girls. Thanks also to Mr Brock for driving us and assisting with the umpiring. A great morning, well played all!
A Matches:
The As were off to a good start in their first game against Grace Dieu, scoring their first goal half way through the game. Prior to this both teams had been fairly equal, but we began to dominate play, our confidence boosted by the goal. The second came a few minutes later, again scored by Immy N, who attacked ferociously. In the second game, it was Foremarke Hall who scored first, benefitting greatly from shooting out of the wind. Our girls quickly picked themselves up and after good ball distribution by halves Holly, Evie and Laura M continued to attack hard. Lily H scored the equalizer, after picking up a through ball and beating the defence, to push it the last few metres into the goal. Defence, Lexi and Laura D both worked hard to ensure the ball was safely cleared away from our goal, the end result being a draw.
B Matches:
For the majority of the B team this was their first ever match and nerves were evident in the game against Grace Dieu. Nonetheless, we quickly took control of the game, with the majority of it being played in our attacking half. Amber H battled tirelessly to bring the ball down the pitch, backed up by Livi and Constance. We tried to dribble it in the goal, however, and not push it for the last few metres. Grace Dieu had a few chances to score and on one occasion the ball rebounded off the post, with Tilly clearing it in what was the hairiest moment of the game. After their first game, the girls found their confidence and went into the 2nd like old pros! This time they did have a go at pushing it at the goal and it wasn’t too long before Amber H’s efforts were rewarded, with her scoring the first goal and Constance W scoring the second – well done you two! With confidence at a high, Tilly and Natalie timed their tackles well in defence; Mimi and Frederique provided plenty of chips to bring the ball down the pitch; and Constance really got stuck in, clearing balls in defence and running on to through balls in attack. Livi scored our 3rd goal, with a push from really far out, which Foremarke tried to clear but sent further back. A great result, in a game that was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
