Barlborough Hockey Tournament Under 9s

The Under 9 hockey team continued with a positive, hard working ethic and came away with two wins:

Against Westbourne: won 3-0

Players of the Match: Amber H and Constance W for their contribution up front.

Against Hymers: won 2-1

Player of the Match: Holly D for hard work in the centre, cutting down on attacks against and also putting balls forward.

If anything, we were willing to play more matches! It is then fortunate that we have the rearranged fixture for Monday, 27th September against Ranby House (away).

The defence continued with goods game anticipation, but as in our last match, they did not get too much play as the ball stayed mainly in our attacking half. Tilly S came forward and put in some good tackles, Natalie G stopped some of the opposition’s play and Miriam A contributed to keeping goals against to a minimum.

In centre field Tara O and Holly D played a very assertive game, both looking forward and giving of their best efforts. Holly D was good at picking up balls and playing then forward and Tara O continued where she left off last week and drove the ball to the opposition’s goal.

Up front Laura M continued with goal scoring, achieving 4 out of our 5 goals. This was with the support of Amber H, who played well in her first match, and Constance W, with another sound performance. Katie M also played at the front and this was her first game with the Under 9s.

I felt our play was excellent in the first match, but in the second match we started crowding together, following the Hymer players. This highlights the need for the team to spread out on the field and look towards the wings as well as forward towards the goal. Let’s hope we can put this into action against Ranby.
