S Anselm’s began slowly against a talented and skilful Maidwell side. Maidwell were running and passing the ball well but S. Anselm’s defence stood firm with Ludo L, Angus E and James L putting in some fine tackles. However, the pressure finally told and two tries were conceded in quick succession and this remained the score at half time, Maidwell leading 10-0. S. Anselm’s put in renewed effort after half time and were rewarded with a try scored by Angus, S. Anselm’s pressed for the equalising score but the passing wasn’t quite good enough and Maidwell broke away and scored their third try. The S. Anselm’s response was immediate with James L scoring a fantastic individual try to bring the score back to 15-10. S. Anselm’s tried their hardest and began to tire with Maidwell scoring a further two tries.
This was a gutsy team performance and an improvement from the midweek match, there is much promise in this group of players.
