Players of the match - Hattie N and Francesca N
There are days in sport when things do not go your way, for the under 9 girls, today was one of those. The girls all worked hard and played well together as a team, enjoying 99% of the possession. They dominated play in attack, tackled well in defence and battled hard for the four quarters of the match. Our girls excelled with their stick skills, knowledge of the game, organisation and pure gutsy determination. However, try as they might they could not provide that final finish and score a goal. They came so close on so many occasions, but today the goals escaped them. The Elms scored the only goal of the game, in a manoeuvre that saw the ball trickle over the line - defence remember to always clear the ball to the sides and ensure you keep clearing it, until it is out of the D and disappearing down the wings. Our attack battled for the last five minutes of the game, but were unable to put an end to today's goal drought.
All in all a disappointing result and unfair indicator of our girls' performance, but the girls can take great credit from the fact that they never gave up and kept battling until the end. We will continue to work on the final finish and shots at goal, but you all played well and all had a very good go in today's game, with the whole year group once again contributing to this performance and playing for their school.
Thanks to Nat for umpiring and good luck to her with delivery number 2 next month. Thanks to all the parents who came to encourage the under 9s.
