A splendid sunny afternoon set the scene for the U9’s opening match of the season. S.Anselm’s lost the toss and were put into bat. Marcus K and Alex S promptly took to their respective creases to open the batting, neither lost a wicket during their spell of overs and Marcus played some particularly sturdy shots, knocking up a selection of singles. Enthusiastic batting was displayed by all and particularly nice style was demonstrated by Sam W, who hit the only four of the innings. The total of 131 runs and loss of 5 wickets was a very positive finish to the batting. S.Anselm’s showed real promise with their bowling and despite conceding quite a few extras there were some terrific deliveries. Particular prowess was shown by Shea J and Max H scored fantastic wicket maiden. The fielding was the area that needs most work and despite some excellent effort by Captain George W, Wellow managed to survive, losing only 1 wicket and despite a conservative number of runs, the extras took them to 140 runs to win. Well done chaps a great start!
