U9/10 v Wellow House Won 4-1

Players of the match - Charlotte H and Holly D

It was a fabulous first match for the under 9 team, with the 4-1 victory against Wellow House School. Wellow played much better than the score line portrays, but it was a very welcome result for us. To maximise play, we agreed to play four 8 minute quarters.

All the nine year 4 girls played, plus Holly D and Tilly S from Year 5. This change at the eleventh hour was to mirror Wellow, who were bringing three Year 5 girls (one of which had never played in a hockey match before). So thank you to Holly D, who played some excellent hockey and scored the four goals and to Tilly S, who is a very solid defence player.

The Year 4 girls all played, some in a variety of positions. The main forwards were Francesca R, Annie M and Francesca N. In the midfield Charlotte H, Frankie R, Gabby H and Hattie N were the players. In defence we had a combination of play from Morgan G, Lily W, Hattie N and Frankie R.

The score went like this:

1st quarter Holly D scored at 4 minutes. The team started to find their feet. Score 1-0.
2nd quarter No further score.
3rd quarter Holly D scored bat 3 minutes. Score 2-0.
Wellow scored at 5 minutes. Score 2-1.
Holly D scored at 7 minutes. Score 3-1.
In this quarter the girls played their best hockey, attacking the ball and really giving their best.
4th quarter Holly D scored at 7 minutes. Score 4-1.

The aim for the next game is to spread out more on the field, with the forwards staying further up the field, and the defence at the back. Equally those playing on the right need to stay right and the lefts on the left. The idea is to open up the field to hit longer balls through and forward. This will also relieve the congestion we experienced at times and stop the ball being played into feet.

Thank you for all the spectators for coming to support the girls.
