U9/8 v Barlborough Halll Drew 6 - 6

Players of the Match -  Holly D and Evie D

Our first match of the season proved to be well worth waiting for! It was agreed by the 2 umpires that the game would be played in a non-competitive, friendly way in order to help both teams to understand the complex rules of the game and also settle some rather ‘nervous’ little girls. This enabled both teams to relax and enjoy the match to the full.

Barlborough had an impressive 1st innings and it was clear that S.A. needed to think more carefully about their fielding.

The second innings proved highly exciting as the standard of play improved enormously. Evie D made some confident calls to the team and fulfilled her role as captain extremely well. Our Backstop, Lily H, also made some accurate throws to 2nd post. Mimi C, Constance W, Livi B-D and Lexi B-D guarded their posts and made some great stumpings whilst our deeps, Tilly S, Imogen N, Natalie G and Laura D, learnt how to move around to the left in order to field for left handers.

Holly D, who was playing the hardest position on the pitch, soon got into routine and made some very accurate underarm bowls.

Our batting also improved during the 2nd innings, the highlight being a whole rounder scored by Natalie G, which resulted in the match being a very close draw.

A fun, exciting and entertaining afternoon was had by pupils, parents…and teachers!

Well played girls!
