Our second match of the season proved to have a little more of a competitive edge than our previous game last week.
The pitch lay-out at Sheffield High was a little confusing for us with poor Holly D having to bowl uphill and into the sunlight and 4th post being a difficult post to find!
Despite the unfamiliar territory, the girls scored some clever rounders and half rounders, playing the game quite intelligently and remembering most of the complicated rules. Throughout the game we managed to stump out 6 of their players whilst Sheffield High only managed to get one of us out.
Physically a bigger side, Sheffield High were able to bat a little harder than us and despite captain Imogen N’s excellent throws from the deep, we just couldn’t stop them scoring.
It is clear we need to work on our throwing and catching accuracy as a lot of time was lost during our fielding in the 1st innings due to misfielding the ball. This resulted in us having to cut the 2nd innings down to just 10 balls. Perhaps nerves could have also played a part in our ‘fumbles’ but this will hopefully improve the more match play practice we get.
Let’s hope that the U8/9 girls take this on board and they use their free time to work on their throwing and catching skills in order to be ready for our next match on Wednesday v Terra Nova.
Keep working on those skills girls!
