U9A v Mylnhurst Drew 2-2

GK- Holly D, GD- Laura M, WD- Miriam A & Natalie G, C- Constance W, WA- Tilly S, GA- Amber H, GS- Tara O’R.

This was an exciting first match for the girls and with all the extra training they had been putting in during breaks they were well prepared for the challenge! During the first centre pass it became apparent how hungry the girls were for the ball when Tilly and Amber came storming out to receive the pass. The girls were full of enthusiasm and although it took some time for them to adjust to their positions, they entered the game whole heartily.

S.A took the lead in the first quarter with Tara scoring the first goal and positioning herself perfectly under the post. It was after the first goal the girls really began to work together as a team and encourage each other. Constance and Miriam played well in centre breaking up play and sending the ball down the court to the shooting third where Amber and Tara were eager for another shot.

After half time the level of play had dramatically improved and the girls had grasped their role in the game. Tilly was beginning to use the space on the pitch and the defence had closed down on the opposition preventing them having any shots. Both Holly and Laura were reaching high to intercept the ball and Natalie was constantly marking her player.

Towards the end of the game the girls were beginning to tire from all their hard work and effort, which was when the opposition equalised. Given more time I believe the girls would have scored another goal and considering the Netball season has only just started they played exceptionally! By the end of the match there was a clear improvement in the girl’s understanding of the game and their individual netball skills.

Player of the match was awarded to Tara for her determination throughout the whole game and her enthusiasm to gain procession of the ball at every possible chance, well done Tara! This was a brilliant match for the girls and I look forward to seeing them play in future matches and develop as a team.

Thank you to all the parents who waited to watch and supported the girls.
