U9B v Terra Nova U9A, Lost 1 - 5

U9 Squad: Annabelle N, Rosie W, Gabby H, Lily W, Eloise S, Ella H, Ursula H.

Player of the match = Rosie W

Half-Time Score = 2 - 1 to TN

The girls put up a good fight and held their own for the first half of this game, with Terra Nova just being a goal ahead at the end of the first half. Unfortunately our opponents sneaked in a couple of goals in the last quarter, however. Throughout the game, the team created some nice chances at goal through good teamwork in the D, but were a little unlucky with some of their shots at goal. Ella H shot persistently, showing real determination and was ably supported by Ursula H.

Rosie W worked really hard in defence, making some good interceptions and utilising space effectively; whilst Annabelle N took the free passes quickly and effectively as GK. Gabby H showed fantastic energy and enthusiasm in calling for the ball and driving it forward, (even if that sometimes involved going offside!) The game was paused briefly during the 3rd quarter, when Ella had her second fall in the game, but after a quick patch up with a plaster, she returned with a brave face and determination!

In the final quarter, Eloise S and Lily W worked well trying to stay close to their opponent and keep on top of the marking but unfortunately the Terra Nova girls just had the edge when it came to making space and clearing the ball away to their attacking third. Their shooting was a little more consistent than ours also, not surprising as they were a year older than the majority of our team and their posts were also not set at the correct height, being 9 foot rather than the usual under 9 height of 8 foot.

Considering our girls were playing an older, more experienced side, it was a great effort all round! Thanks to all of our supporters for making the long journey to watch the girls play.

Well done to Mrs Hunter too, as this was her first school match, since joining the girls' games department in January. Teaching drama, directing school plays and now sports coaching, there is no end to her talents!
