The eleven players from the Under 9’s travelled to Barlborough Hall to take part in a Festival. There were ten teams present and we found ourselves seeded in the top group against some very good teams. The S. Anselm’s players rose to the challenge and played some marvelous rugby during the afternoon.
The matches were played on a ten minute one way basis and this produced some exciting and frenetic rugby. The first match was against Ranby House and the boys produced their best rugby of term tackling well and passing well, recording a 20-0 win with Ludo L, Angus E, Hamish O’R and James L all scoring tries. Birkdale were the next opponents and this was a hard match with the boys tackling their hearts out and a narrow victory was achieved 10-0 with Angus and Hamish scoring the tries. Next up were the hosts Barlborough who had swept all before them we fell behind to an early try but battled back to equalise but were just pipped at the death to lose 10-5 with Angus scoring again. There was no shame in losing as the whole team had put in a fine performance. The final match was against Hymers and after falling behind 15-5 the boys dug deep and managed to level the scores with the last play of the match to draw 15-15 with Hamish, Ludo and Angus scoring the tries.
All of the boys deserve a mention for a fine afternoon of rugby and a great set of results , they played as a team and battled to the end in each and every match, Ludo L, Angus E, Hamish O’R, James L, Max W, Henry T, Barnaby, Cameron H, Tom C and Cian B
