On Thursday 4 February, Jeremy Bushell, who plays the French Horn in the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, came to S Anselm’s for the afternoon.
Jeremy, a good friend of Mr Weller, has been playing the French Horn for 25 years, and performed and talked to the whole school in the Hargreaves Hall during Reading Period, before then giving lessons to some of the school’s brass players.
He talked to the school about the history of the horn, from its original use as a non-musical instrument used for communicating over long distances, to the rather virtuoso use of the horn nowadays as an orchestral and solo instrument.
He concluded with a performance of ‘Match of the Day’ on an instrument that looked a little bit like a long piece of garden hose with a funnel in the end!
His lessons with Isobel, Imogen and Peter (who was visiting us for the day) went down a real treat. Some great advice and hopefully a motivational springboard.
Some sound advice
Success!
Playing duets
F# jam blues ...
Anyone who wishes to learn the French Horn, or any other instrument should approach Mr Weller by email or phone. It may be possible to arrange some trial lessons between now and Easter.
