Weekend 13/14th September

Weekend 13/14th September

Saturday 13 September

Saturday was much more like it! The sun was shining and after a purposeful morning of lessons the school braced itself for some final selection decisions. The calendar had been kept deliberately clear so that final team selections and tactics could be sorted prior to the first matches next week. Mr Morse & Mr Burnett took the 1st XV off to Sedbergh for their rugby tournament on the Sunday. They had a training session at Sedbergh before settling down for the night.

Meanwhile back at S. Anselm's the sports programme was in full flow and taking place in glorious sunshine. Hockey sessions abounded, and rugby tackles were going in everywhere. Everyone was out there enjoying the sunshine.

After the normal games programme had ended the boarders had their tuck and then went for a swim. The new pool facility really has enabled the boarders to have even more fun after normal school hours.

During the free time the common room was in good use, with some regular pool hustlers developing.

After supper the seniors also went for a swim and finally the whole school flopped into bed well exercised and exhausted.

Sunday 14 September

The morning comprised of letter writing home as usual.

Helen Lings did one of her superb services. This time it was all about "what are you made of" and she talked about people's bravery, and indeed what people were made up of physiologically.

Mr.Franklin took some boys off to watch Nottinghamshire v Sussex, the title decider, in the Pro-40 competition. They were away from school for 11 hours in all and had a wonderful time, except for the fact that Sussex won when the last ball of the match was hit for six! Both sets of players were very kind in giving autographs and the boys played some cricket too. A marvellous day in the sunshine, plus a pizza at the end!

Soon after lunch, fifty boys and girls jumped on a bus to Chesterfield for some ten pin bowling. There were some tightly contested games and Mrs. Morse impressed with her score of 118, but it was Sarah Wright who scored the most points with well over 120.

Mars bars were munched on the coach back from bowling and then there was a good splash around in the pool before supper. Next weekend is the Sunday Family Breakfast followed by a whole boarding outing to Carsington.
