Weekend 28-30th November

Weekend 28-30th November

Of course, the run up to the end of term can be an excuse to unwind but not here at S. Anselm's! This weekend was as jam packed as ever.

A dramatic mix of blood and guts, challenge and adversity, terror and tradgedy were all witnessed throughout the weekend. Friday night saw the 5th form head off with Mr Weller and Mr Watt to Edgeley Park to watch a ferocious Sale Sharks game against Leicester. This was a bruising encounter but I think Issy and Charlotte were covering their eyes because of the cold! As the dry ice flooded across the floor on Saturday afternoon the stage was set for the Junior House matches.

Both the the boys' and girls' Junior House matches were hotly contested but the Churchill boys dominated and the Wellington girls also won through. That night the 5th form were treated to a night of violence, love and murder when they went out to watch a sparkling and modern production of Romeo and Juliet with Mrs Lings. But the drama had not quite finished because on Sunday the prefects wowed some parents with a brief but highly engaging service that delivered a strong but simple message - get out there and get active!

Taking them at their word, the boarders then got involved in some baking, badminton, table tennis and hiking. The choir ventured off site and they delivered a superb festive performance to celebrate the beginning of advent. Well done again to Mr Weller for organising this. But the drama did not end here - the more lethargic were given some vital r and r, stereo-typically watching Mama Mia (for the girls) and Bourne Identity (for the boys)!

Not to forget the free swim during the interval!

This weekend we also welcomed some 2nd years into School House for an action packed weekend to taste boarding life and also test their metal. Saturday was sedate enough with the lads having a mess about in the pool and then playing charades up in the Sky TV room but Sunday saw the boys head out onto the Peaks near Alport as they scaled Robin Hood's Stride.

Some quite spectacular scenery set the backdrop for what was to be an afternoon to remember.

The boys slipped, abseiled, climbed and scrambled all over this range of rocks as they performed feats of great daring. They were a wonderful company and had a well deserved hot chocolates and carrot cake at the Mace's that night. As the curtain came down, it was safe to say that this was yet another fun packed and fast paced weekend with something for everybody! If all the world's a stage and all the men and women are merely players then we can safely say that the boys and girls of S. Anselm's played with great gusto this weekend and seized their opportunities with two hands!
