Whilst we are in the grip of difficult weather conditions we hope we can offer you a program of study for your child should you wish to access it. Set out below are activities for a range of subjects.

English
Year 3 -8 should choose themselves a book, settle down in a quiet corner and read, read and read. If you would like to do a book review you will be appropriately rewarded.
Year 3 write a winter poem. Please choose adjectives carefully and try to include some alliteration. Think about your senses. What does it look like? How does it feel?
Year 6 English (RDM’s set): Write an imaginative story entitled: “The clouds”
Remember – beginning (set scene and introduce characters) / middle (a problem or difficulty) / end (some sort of resolution)

Maths
All children from Y3- Y8 have been set tasks that they can complete at home on the the My Maths Website (http://www.mymaths.co.uk) Please do the lesson first before completing the on-line assessment. Please phone/e mail/text Mrs Young or Mr Scothern if you have forgotten your passwords!

Science
Year 7 and 8 pupils should access the S. Anselm's Science Department website (www.sanselmsscience.co.uk password is gravity). Questions will appear in the Scholarship revision and Common Entrance revision sections. Questions will begin to appear tomorrow afternoon (Friday 3rd).
There will be a new section dedicated to Year 6 pupils until the end of term where questions will appear.
Should any Year 7 or 8 pupils require any assistance with the questions they should go to the Science forum (link from the website) and post their question. We will then be able to respond as soon as we can. Please email Mr Watt at school if you require any assistance on this.
Any 8X pupils who are not in school, there is already a new set of questions on the Science website for you to try. Mr Eaton will be on line during 1pm and 2:15pm this afternoon to respond to any queries using the forum. Please email Mr Watt at school if you have not yet registered on the forum or have any questions regarding it.

Year 3 Use the internet/ any books you may have a home to create a booklet or word document on Egyptian Gods. Please draw your own illustrations to go with it.
Year 5 Create a profile of Edward VI (use encyclopaedias and internet)
- Who were his parents / dates of reign and his life / Who ran the country for him / What difficulties were there in running the country at this time – particularly 1549
Year 6 Research what the Cavaliers and Roundheads wore and how they fought. Perhaps create a picture that is labelled. (use encyclopaedias and internet)

Geography
All Geographers can enter a competition: Where has all this snow come from?
This is particularly relevant for Year 7 who are studying the weather at the moment, but it is open to all. I will be looking for students to use their own words and supplement their work with maps and diagrams, integrated into the text.
Year 3 Revise continents and the major deserts of the world.

Year 4
Go to www.kids.mongabay.com/elementary. It is all about rainforests. Create a few pages on ‘word’ or on paper using your own words to answer the questions –
1. Why are rainforests important?
2. Why are there so many different plants and animals in the rainforests?
You could use bullet points or write paragraphs,find illustrations and annotate them to show what you have found out. Comment on the climate,
the canopy and camouflage.Find out as much as you can.
You could also try www.kidinfo.com/geography/maps and try the quiz on where in the world countries are.Have fun.
Following on from yesterday’s work on the flora and fauna of the rainforests, try to find out about ‘deforestation’ and the impact this has on
1. The rainforest itself.
2. The people who live there.
3. What are the good reasons for cutting down the rainforests?
4. What are the bad reasons for cutting down the rainforests?
You will need to write a number of sentences for each and give some examples if you can.Illustrations and diagrams, neatly done, will help your answer.
Year 5 Please continue with your Gulf oil spill work.
Year 6 Work on your Etna write ups.
Year 7 scholars should continue with the Common Academic Scholarship paper. They should attempt parts a. and c., (as well as part b which they should have done for prep on Monday night).
Year 8's should work on their Fieldwork projects or the above (this is good revision work for CE and Scholarships).
Year 8 scholars can continue with the Rugby paper; if they have the passages at home. They should consider
a.) Based on the information in the article and your own experience, explain how the increased cost of driving might have both a positive and negative impact on people and the environment.
b.) What could be done to UK city centre to make them more attractive to make them more attractive to potential visitors/shoppers?

Pre-Prep
A few suggestions for the Pre-Prep children- especially Year 1 and 2 to try at home! If you have time between sledging and building snowmen then choose one or two activities from the list below to keep you busy;
Literacy
1. Read or listen to a story and try to retell the story in your own words. Draw a pictue to go with the story.
2. Practise your sound book or spellings from the term. Try writing a few sentences using the spellings- remember your capital letters and full stops!
3. Describe your snowy day at home. Explain what you have been doing and whether you are enjoying the snow! Draw a picture to go with your writing.
4. Write an imaginative story using one of the following titles, or make one of your own up;
a. The Day Rudolf's Nose Stopped Glowing.
b. The Day I Found a Polar Bear in My Garden.
Numeracy
1. Practise addition and subtraction sums to 10, 20 or if you're feeling very clever even 100. Prizes to the 3 pupils who write the most down.
2. Go on a shape hunt round your house- looking for 2 and 3-d shapes. Make a list of what you find, or even better take some photos!
3. Draw a snowman family. Measure and record how tall they each are.
4. Play shops with someone in your family. Use coins to practise making amounts up to 20p, 50p or even £1. Have a go (Year 2 children) at calculating change.
ICT( Y2)
1.Word. Write your name and copy and paste it 6 times. Then change the font, colour and size on each line so they are all different.
2.Word.Open a new document and make a shape poster by inserting 2 D shapes into a word document. Choose a different colour for each shape and use a text box to label them.
3.Use Paint to create a Christmas picture.
