On Thursday 30 September, the Chapel Choir opened their busy 2010-11 schedule by travelling to Worksop for a Prep Schools Choral Day. Set in the beautiful grounds of Worksop College, the day was a great success.
We were greeted by a senior pupil from the College and taken to the Dining Hall for juice and biscuits and a welcome from the Headmaster before moving to the Chapel for a rehearsal taken by Tim Uglow, Director of Music at Worksop.
After our packed lunches and a breath of fresh air, the massed choir of nearly 300 voices adjourned to the Chapel again for a rehearsal, this time also including Worksop College’s Chapel Choir. The Prep school children were then split into 4 smaller groups for some more rehearsal time before reconvening for a final rehearsal all together in the Chapel.

The high tea of chicken and chips was thoroughly deserved and very much appreciated to renew energy levels before the 5.45 service.
A number of S Anselm’s parents travelled to come to the service and the Chapel was packed with performers and congregation alike.
The music included some favourite S Anselm’s hymns – “Christ Triumphant” and “All my Hope on God is Founded”, two pieces by John Rutter – “For the Beauty of the Earth” and “The Heavenly Aeroplane”, a beautiful two-part piece by Marcello called “Give Ear unto Me” and the challenging “I waited for the Lord” from Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang.

The acoustics and beauty of the Chapel, combined with the sound of 300 young voices made this a memorable occasion which we all enjoyed.
Our thanks go to all at Worksop College for a wonderful day.
My personal thanks go to the parents for their support, the Chapel Choir for a long, hard day, and to Holly, Clare and Mrs Lings for accompanying the trip.
